If the picture painted by police and family is accurate, Aaron Mayberry went to a Liberty duplex hoping to collect $45 he was owed -- and wound up getting beaten to death instead.
The Star reported the death this morning. Police arrived at the home on La Chateau Drive in response to a call about a break-in. They found a man unconscious inside the home.
The man later died at the hospital. He has not yet been identified by police, but a man outside the duplex said he was the brother of the victim, and identified his brother as 27-year-old Aaron Mayberry. According to the brother, Mayberry had visited the duplex to collect $45 owed to him.
Police Sgt. Matt Kellogg said that the victim had reportedly been rapping on the door all morning long. He also said it was clear that the man "had been in a struggle."
Four suspects were taken into police custody Sunday night, but police believe even more people were in the house at the time of the beating.

This is crazy, a young man who was trying to collect money owed to him was killed. He wasn't "hood" a druggie, a drug dealer or anything of that sort. This is a very sad story. My heart goes out to the family. There is something seriously wrong in this case, the current charges against the suspects. No one has the right to play God, no matter the circumstance. That job is for God and God only. This story has been on my heart every since I saw it on the news. Even though it only aired for one day and silly stories like the sleeping city workers played non stop for 3 days. Its evident that they are trying to let this slide by. Family, friends, and everyone that is touched by this unfortunate incident should be outraged enough to make sure justice is served. Assault! Are you fucking kidding me? from the comments, it seems the $45 was over drugs sold to the suspects. I based this on the fact the people have had plenty of time to explain otherwise. Plus, the coworker statement gives more sense of reality that is was over drugs. Hence, this was a drug dealer who was beaten to death. Hmmm...is there a lesson to be learned here?

Why would you lend $45 to people living in a drug house? I give money all the time to my church and other charities, but never feel compelled to lend money to violent drug addicts. Why bother trying to get the money back?
The money was lent to someone in the home. Because Aaron was very kind hearted. The people in that home were always violent and several reports describe the police being called to that home on a regular basis for domestic disputes.

First I would like to say rest in peace Aaron. I knew this young man personally. I had the pleasure to work with him. Aaron was a gentle person that always wore a smile and always made time for you. Aaron is greatly loved, and will be missed greatly. I just don't understand how one human can hurt another person like this. Why did this man have to lose his life senselessly over money, is this what this world has come to. My prayers are with Aaron's loving family.

It's disgusting that ANYONE could do this to another human-- in the presence of several children, no less-- REGARDLESS of the reason! Aaron was an easygoing guy and there's no way he'd be involved with crack. Get you shit straight. The police had been called to that house several times before, and he was caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Justice will be served one way or another.
