A St. Joseph man who taunted his alimony-starved ex-wife by sending her pictures of $100 bills has lost a bid to have his child support reduced.
Douglas Heck waged a campaign of intimidation and harassment after separating from the mother of his three children in 2008. Stephanie Heck testified at a trial in Andrew County last fall that he disconnected the battery cables on her car and applied a coat of Vaseline, mustard, brown sugar and sardines to the doors and sidewalks of her workplace.
Heck also threatened his wife, warning in a text message that if she received sole custody of the children, "you'll never live through the night."
For Heck, the dead fish and threats of bodily harm were not the real turn-ons, though. What really put a daisy in this guy's peehole was to withhold money from his ex-wife.
In a stream of e-mails and text messages, Heck said he was hiding assets and planning to earn as little money as possible during the dissolution proceedings. He twice sent his wife images of cash, according to the court record. "When you are broke, I will take the kids," Heck wrote in a 2009 text message.
