TheCall is billed as an event centered on prayer and fasting, a place where you can wash away your sins with "nothing but the blood of Jesus."
But in the heat of mid-term election season, this weekend's event in Sacramento -- put on by Kansas City-based preacher and noted gay-hater Lou Engle -- is taking on a decidedly political feel.
The event is being used as a kick-off for a series of events, spearheaded by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, aimed at mobilizing the religious right.
TheCall Sacramento is expected to draw 50,000 people to California's capitol, where they will apparently pray for, among other things, a favorable outcome in the legal wrangling over the state's gay-marriage ban.
Considering that Engle has been linked to a bill proposed in Uganda that called for imprisoning and killing openly gay people, we're sure you can figure which outcome he considers favorable.
