Responding to complaints about lengthy wait times, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, is offering a new walk-in service for people who want to be tested for sexually transmitted diseases.
The Health Department invites sexually active citizens who are not experiencing burning sensations or other symptoms to simply show up at the clinic at 2400 Troost Avenue for testing. The clinic is able to make the walk-in service available because symptom-free individuals do not need to undergo a physical exam, one of the unfortunate consequences of a prosperous social life.
Anyone reporting symptoms must schedule an appointment. The clinic can be reached at (816) 513-6379.
Health Department officials say wait times at the STD clinic are shorter now than they were five years ago. A visit that took four hours in 2005 takes 51 minutes, based on average times in 2010.
"With this new process, clients seeking testing should be able to get in and out of the clinic in less than 45 minutes," Ron Griffin, the Health Department's manager of communicable diseases, said in a statement.
So, no excuses. Get checked out.
