Sam Brownback was nervous.
Last Friday, Kansas' next governor announced the formation of a group called Veterans for Brownback. Brownback thought he had made a good impression on the flinty-eyed retired colonels -- the fading Brownback for President bumper stickers on their LeSabres was a good sign. But he took nothing for granted.
The waiting is over. On Monday, the press reported that Veterans for Brownback had endorsed, yes, Sam Brownback.
The endorsement came after what was surely a weekend of cajoling and nervous tension.
Only days earlier the defenders of democracy had agreed to come together on Brownback's behalf. But there was a chance the agreeable veterans would open up their local newspaper and comes across a letter to the editor or a Beetle Bailey reprint that would give them reason to believe Tom Holland was their man.
Next week look for media coverage of Brownback's announcement that he has superpowers, a belief informed by the fact that whenever he reaches into his closet, he finds clothes that fit.

I am a Vietnam veteran and I am NOT, NOT, NOT voting for a coward like Sam Brownback. I am use to losing but I will not give up my integrity and honor just because the Brownback has the people of Kansas fooled. I am a write in for Joan Heffington for Kansas Governor. I do not jump ship or run when things get tough. Brownback is a loser and will always be a loser. I ask ALL Vietnam veterans to stand there ground as Joan Heffington father did when he was killed in Vietnam. Us Vietnams Veterans together. We know what politics has done to us. It cost us over 55,000 soldiers lives. Hear Joans video on Brownback fraud and corruption on you tube.
