An eyewitness account of an attempted holdup at a Bannister Road gas station has gone viral as part of the Auto-Tune the News series, which transforms news footage into plausible R&B songs.
Diana Radcliff was getting coffee at a Shell Food Mart on Wednesday morning when armed men wearing hoodies entered the store. A clerk who wasn't in the mood to take any shit that day drew a gun and started firing at the suspects, who fled.
Radcliff spoke to KMBC about her brush with danger. Her account of "backin' up, backin' up, backin' up, backin' up ... because my daddy taught me good" caught the attention of the Gregory Brothers. They're the ones who turned an Alabama news report about an attempted rape into a song that made the Billboard 100. "Bed Intruder Song" has been viewed 18 million times on YouTube.
Using software that can make normal speech sound like a melody, the Gregory Brothers cut Radcliff's interview into a song that's not as catchy "Bed Intruder Song" but contagious enough to have already inspired cover versions.
KMBC spoke to Radcliff to talk about about new fame. Here's the video that made her an Internet star.
