Kansas City police have confirmed that Frederick C. Jones Jr. was the homicide victim at a Shell gas station at 5501 Bannister Road last Friday.
The 21-year-old was found wounded in the gas station's parking lot around 6:54 p.m.,
and later died at a local hospital.
KCTV 5"They said they told him to get off the property because he was asking for some change," Jessica Jones said
of her conversation with police. "And that's what kind of person he is.
He disabled. He ask for change. That's what he do all day is ask for
change. Mom told him don't leave nowhere, but he didn't listen."
spoke to a woman claiming to be Jones' sister, and she told the TV
station that her brother was in outpatient care four days a week and his
family "tried to keep him on his medication and out of harm's way."
Police say no charges have been filed.
A shooting earlier in the week at the Shell station during an armed robbery sparked the "Backin' Up"
song -- an eyewitness account of the holdup gone awry morphed into an
auto-tuned R&B song. In that robbery attempt, a clerk opened fire on
robbers. No one was injured. The trigger-happy clerk was reportedly not the
same one in Jones' homicide.
This time, the ending wasn't entertaining.

It has been twenty-five days since this incident occurred and still no charges have been filed. The coroner ruled death by homicide, gun shot wound to the back. Prosecutors are still deliberating on this case according to detectives associated with the investigation.
An unnamed eye-witness reports the two assailants brutally assaulted the victim and with bravado, 'high-fived' each other after the shooting.
The victim was unarmed and was a daily customer at the Shell station where the shooting took place. According to witnesses, he was well known by employees who considered him to be a nuisance, due to his mental illness.
