Addicted gamblers and aspiring blackjack dealers rejoice: There's still a chance Kansas City will be home to Missouri's Next Big Money Pit.
With one of Missouri's 13 available casino licenses up for grabs, state regulators are entertaining bids and plan to choose one lucky casino operator by year's end. And while they rejected one developer's proposal for a new Sugar Creek casino, a Las Vegas-based group is still in the running to build a $407 million casino in Sugar Creek, the Kansas City Business Journal reports.
Sunway Gaming saw its Sugar Creek proposal rejected because its gambling license was incomplete, which seems like a pretty lousy way to lose a chance to print money. But four other groups are still in the running, the Biz Journal reports:
They are:The state will make a decision by the end of the year.
Las Vegas-based Paragon Gaming, which proposes a $407 million casino in Sugar Creek.
Casino Celebration LLC, led by developer Jim Koman, which proposes a $157 million casino near the Chain of Rocks bridge in St. Louis.
North County Development LLC, proposing a $350 million casino in Spanish Lake.
Isle of Capri-Cape Girardeau LLC, part of St. Louis-based gaming company Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. (Nasdaq: ISLE), proposing a $125 million casino in Cape Girardeau.
