Before the attack, the suspect had walked into a room wherethe press conference was to be held "acting crazy," one witness said. He
briefly grabbed the microphone and said "check, check, check" and "can
you hear me" before leaving and walking across the hall into a computer
lab.
When the suspect exited the computer lab, that's when the confrontation with the dean occurred.
The Star also reports that witnesses claimed the man had "demonic tattoos on his hands" and drew symbols on a poster before the attack.
Update I (11:24 a.m. September 14): The stabbing victim was a dean at the college, according to the Kansas City police's Twitter feed.
Original Story (11 a.m. September 14): Freaky story at Metropolitan Community College's
Penn Valley campus: A 40-year-old man's throat was slashed the college
this morning, and he's in the hospital with "serious injuries."
Witnesses
saw a man in his twenties walk up to the victim in the humanities
building and slash cut him without being provoked. They didn't just
watch idly. The witnesses tackled the suspect and held him down until
police arrived on the scene.
The witnesses told police that the man appeared to be on drugs. Police took the man in for questioning.
Fox 4 reports that Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon was
supposed to be at the college around that time to talk about expanding
the state's high-speed broadband access. But the station says Nixon
wasn't involved in the incident. KMBC Channel 9 reports that Nixon's
appearance was canceled.
