The Kansas City Star has a good write-up on the woeful state of Missouri's adult industry as it struggles to adapt to new rules banning nudity and alcohol sales. For the most part, it's stuff we've heard before: Dancers are leaving for places they can make money (i.e., Kansas); business is bad.
But Sen. Matt Bartle, the man responsible for stomping on the First Amendment's throat, finally shared what he expected to happen to these businesses under the new law. He's either the most naive politician ever or the most full of shit.
"I
never believed these businesses would shut down," Bartle, a termed-out Lee's Summit Republican told the Star. "I don't
doubt there's a way they can comply with the new law and remain in
business. But how they're doing that, I don't really know."
Well that makes sense doesn't it? Say I banned all alcohol sales across Missouri. Certainly I'd have no reason to suspect the bars and liquor stores would have trouble making money. Think of all the things they offer. Fellowship! Good music! Bouncers! Just because you destroy a company's product is no reason to assume their business model will suffer.
Christ on the cross, this fucking guy.
When I first wrote about Bartle's suspect attempts to cram this bill through the Missouri Legislature (see the feature, "Exit Boobies") Shady Lady club owner Joe Spinello told me that he and several other adult business owners tried to meet with Bartle several times when the bill was being drafted, and that he refused to speak to them. Here's a Spinello quote from that interview that seems to sum it all up: "Being politically motivated is one thing, but now I think he's just a vindictive son of a bitch."
Just for the record, Bartle hasn't returned calls from The Pitch for comment on this bill in the past. Should we bother trying again?

Fact of the matter is, it was the voters of Lees Summit who inflicted this dweeb Bartle on the majority of sane / rational people in the state of Missouri, and because of that, I, at least, am doing NO more business with any company, restaurant, etc in Lees Summit.
It's obvious from comments here and anywhere / everywhere else I read articles about this new 'law' that overwhelmingly the citizens of Missouri disagree with it, yet here we are, so obviously our legislators could give a rats ass about the opinions of their constituents, therefore, the ONLY way I have to express my disagreement with it is with my pocketbook, which I intend to do.
Mary Magdeline was a whore. Wasn't this Jesus' best friend? Is Senator Bartle's best friend a whore too? Might be. Come out, come out wherever you are?
Here is what he did. Put MANY ppl out of work, which will cost us more in taxes for food stamps, welfare etc. They will no longer receive as much taxes from these clubs (because they will not make near as much income) so our taxes WILL go up. Illinois Strip Club laws are alot better, meaning Missourians will be spending money in other states to satisfy there fantasies. And to top it all off BARTLE is also wanting TOLL ROADS in missouri to take even more of our money....HMMMMM i think its time to get him out of office!
It'll be important to remember, going forward, not to let Bartle or any of the other folks who supported or voted for this bill complain about "local control" the next time a law they don't like is proposed. Before this, counties had the power to ban strip clubs if they didn't want them. This all but took that power away by driving the clubs (and the jobs) out of the state.
It is easy to blame this jerk off for the passing of this bill. Truth be told he could not have gotten it through with out help. If memory serves me correctly the only person to vote against this crap was Jolie Justus, everyone else just went along as if it was cut and dry. We need to stop letting the small nut job minority dictate our lives. Missourians are becoming the nut jobs of the midwest, rapidly taken the title away from Kansas.
What I never understood about Christian theology is that it is inherently selfish.
Sure there are passages that say to witness or preach from the mountain tops. But no Christian is responsible for anyone else's soul.
In fact, their own theology dictates that souls are unimportant to God's plan. God will win out over evil and everyone will be forced to have good clean fun forever and ever. God does not need more souls in heaven. Your soul doesn't matter to God.
Why can't Christians at least use logic within their own faith? Why must they fail completely in every attempt to use logic?
God doesn't need your soul. Christians shouldn't care about it, either.
Let's not forget all of the other dip shits in the senate and the house for Missouri that helped pass this bill besides the Bastard that came up with it
By all that I hold holy I swear I moved into the district after the last election. Lee's Summit was robbed of having Rob Johnson being in Jeff City rather than Battle.
Beerlady,
Great comment, but make no mistake, Matt 'the Inquisitor' Barttle knew exactly the consequences of his endeavor.
"I never believed these businesses would shut down,"
He has to actually say that out loud while laughing up his sleeve at the victims, so no one can say he is anti-business.
Bartle is no 2 year old, he easily calculated and manipulated a campaign that would incite his base, in order to solidify and increase his power.
Fair game in this case, are the few powerless and vulneralbe folks who operate in this industry.
Most people, including me, could give a shit about, or ever go to strip clubs.
But these Christian Taliban, Ralph Reed, Jimmy Swaggert, Ted Haggard hypocrites, who claim and gain political power by way of purported association with Jesus, and, then through draconian measures, destroy the weak to further elevate same, are the lowest form of life.
No joke, no exageration, through recorded history, Matt Bartle and his ilk, are the same guys, tightening the rope on the Ducking Stool, Scold's Brindle, Scavenger's Daughter and the rack. In another time, he burns witches for god and tells you it is for your protection.
He is closer, so much closer to Jesus or Mohammed than you are. He is chosen. He is superior and, is in posession of ethics, values and mores, you cannot understand, but why way of close association with his 'just cause'.
He is self absorbed, narcissistic and dangerous when given power over others.
Not a 2 year old at all.
What an idiot. Then again, you also have the idiots that voted for him.
So, if you take him at his word and it truly never crossed his mind that this law might be bad for business, what are you left with? Hmm, well, we have someone without any capability for critical thought, who finds it perfectly reasonable to take action without giving any consideration to the consequences of those actions.
In other words, a two-year-old.
"I never believed these businesses would shut down," Bartle, a termed-out Lee's Summit Republican told the Star.
Good to know Missouri politician can only think one thought at a time.....
Bunch of single minded idiots.
Yeah, like it's obvious that was the only purpose of the bill. What a jerk.
This "Ralph Reed" clone will do a hell of a lot more than just put strip clubs out of business if he thinks it will get him more votes.
Another "Jesus on speed dial" lemming who wants to control you for 'God".
If he forgets his cell phone, he probably just tells the priest to "Put me through."
In the middle ages, guys like Bartle strapped people to racks and burned girls at the stake. All for Jesus, or Mohammed or the 'god de jour'.
Those strippers oughtta count their blessings.
From a Kansas resident I would like to thank Mr Bartle. The dancers in Kansas are now prettier, the numeber of 'escorts' has increased and the cost has gone down.
From the party who brought you "Where are the jobs?" now they bring you, "Here's how you destroy jobs in 2 easy steps." Well if nothing else the GOP is definitely good at hypocrisy.
Any well-to-do semi-prostitute-type of women out there could honey trap the guy. It would be worth it to see Mr. Bartle humiliated. The Missouri Association of Strip Clubs would surely post bail, and pay for all the legal fees. Hell, I'll pay a woman to seduce Mr. Bartle, right now! $500 anyone?
