AMAZING that the bar hasn't been shut down.....Black out drunk I have seen and abuse well, you see that her customer have changed...alot stay away from there.  She won't cut off customers when she is making a dime.  She drinks with her customers ALL THE TIME.

Yeah and the owner of the bar carrying a gun....and more than likely DRUNK as always, shooting in her bar endangering all the in there.  Has no BUSINESS owning a bar.  It's only a matter of time before she falls on her face.

Of course, its NEVER Lori's fault. Never her fault being a drunk, assaulting people verbally and physically....oh never her fault shooting into the floor....conditioned response and she didn't even cooperate with the cops. Yeah, not Lori's fault. THINGS NEVER change...

Some people need to stay in school so they can learn proper spelling, grammar, and composition. Set an example.

Bad things happen all the time to good people. There is only one person who is to blame for this man being killed -the person who pulled the trigger. Someone knows who committed this crime and that someone should step forward.

That's the kind of bass-ackwards thinking that perpetuates violence in this city because the true culprits are left to scamper off into the darkness while people like you blame everybody else....but those who are truly to blame. Pathetic.

Posted by Jubie St. Clair on 03/02/2011 at 12:09 PM

Always someone else's fault but those actually responsible. The murder happened outside the bar. Perhaps the owner erred in firing a gun, but she did not kill this man. Someone else did, and there are those who KNOW who pulled the trigger. You don't see or hear of them coming forward, now do you?

Why don't you try putting your heart & soul into your own business then maybe you can talk smack. Until then, think before you speak/write/type.

I'm with you. The reason why this crap goes on in KC's black community is because they want to blame everyone else, but they don't want to look in the mirror. Did Lori start the fight that night? No. Did she fire the shots that killed this man? No. She was trying to do a good turn and give some locals play at her club. How do they repay her? By bringing the same lame "it's always someone else's fault" attitudes to her place of business.

None of you ever think about anyone else's livelihoods when you start shooting up our streets. You seriously need to check yourselves.

Seriously? And just what was the bar's role in his murder? Did the bar owner kill this man? No. Did the bar kill this man? No. Either someone who was there that night, or was waiting outside for this man...killed this man. Blame everyone but the one who pulled the trigger, the ones who started the fights, the ones who ARE to blame. Pathetic.

Sure, and the patrons who bring in guns, knives, and bad attitudes -just looking for a fight- are NEVER to blame. Whatever. If you can't behave, you have no business leaving your houses.

What a bunch of morons! This kid broke the law. He should have been home taking care of his baby and acting like a father and not a thug (like his brother in a previous post)! This is not the bar owners fault or anyone else but the person that died! Thugs...all of them...let the blackies keep shooting each other!

Lori gets black out drunk in her own bar befroe closing down. Leaving fryers on and everything. Fire hazard. She also serves people more drinks when she should be cutting them off and then throws them out. She has also verbally abused customers and threatned them. She has absolutely no business running a bar. For the record, I do not know the poor kid that was killed. Who's fault? Lori's without a doubt. i hope the family sues and ruins her. I personally have also turned over info to news stations and authorities in hopes that she is shut down for good. lori and her bar are a shit stain on this city that needs to be stopped. For GOOD...not just 45 days. Before someone else is killed. And that will happen.

All I'm going to say is Jeremy was a great person, as what I knew of him. He was a hard worker (and we sure do miss him there) and everyone was fond of him. What happened, happened. We can't change it. All I care about is that the person that did this to him gets caught. End of story.. RIP JEREMY MOTT!!! <3

Yeah sure its not the bars fault. The owner is partially at fault considering she fired a gun in the bar where the fight started to evacuate the bar. Conditioned response? Did she pick up the phone to call cops to regain control? Sounds like she picked up the gun instead. Creating caios in the streets endangering patrons and the community. Bar has been closed before for 45 days...which is a vacation. Lori Burroughs got a CHOICE and closed for 45 days and RIP Jeremy Mott and may god be with your family and friends during this time.

Well this isn't the first time the bar has been closed for 45 days. That's nothing but a vacation AGAIN for Lori. Why did the bar owner not cooperate with the police until they obtained a search warrant? Drunk again? What did she have to hide? Lori allegedly fired a gun into the floor due to FIGHTS in the bar. Why not call the cops? Thats playing RUSSIAN ROULETTE when you enter that bar.

I just found out about this tragedy today, and I must say I feel a deep sadness for everyone involved. Except the a-hole who took this young man's life. This person should fry. As for the victims. Plural. We are all victims of others violence. But to Jeremy Mott and his poor family, my condolences. No one deserves such a horrific fate. I pray you have the strength to endure. To Lori please don't blame yourself. I know that you're a good person and made a valiant attempt to stop this unforseen act. You have brought many good times to my life with your willingness to invest and re-invest time and again in your good-time sancuary. I havn't been to your bar in a long time, but my memories are all joyous. As for the perpetrator of this cowardly act of ill-will towards his fellow man. May God forgive you, but my you never forgive yourself. Rest In Peace, Jeremy.

Its sad but the kid pulled his own cards. Sneaking into a club using a fake I.D happens all the them, not just at this club. Young women and young men get this fake I.D's and are let into the club. A bouncer is only human, he cant tell all the time who is who. Just like Akon got in trouble for letting a 17 year old on stage at a 21 and up club. The club took a big hit because it let her in. When in fact that girl needed a good ass whooping from her parents. Where are these kids parents? I didnt have my first drink until I was 21, nor was i sneaking into clubs. Black folks are so hateful and jealous of each other. And the fact that the young male was black and from kansas city, he should know that fighting equals gun shots. You cant be the tough guy every night. If your sister was being touched you shouldve grabbed her and left. Its that simple. SOmetimes the best thing to do is walk away. You wasnt suppose to be there that night, you wasnt suppose to lose your life that night, you wasnt suppose to be drinking that night. He chose his own fate. Sad

Lori may not be directly to blame for the kids death, but ultimately she OWNS the place and is therefore responsible for anything that happens there. If she was promoting a hiphop night, she should have invested in extra security. That is KC club owner 101.

Add to that her behavior over the years and one can't really expect much sympathy. If she had the reputation of an upstanding business owner with a good head on her shoulders, people might feel bad for her.

I've seen her blackout drunk up there as well as threaten and even physically assault patrons.

She is a train wreck, and now everyone can clearly see Balancas is too. Shut that piece of shit down.

It is asinine to blame Lori for this tragedy. HE snuck into the bar, HE got into a fight, HE continued to fight outside the bar. How about blaming the people involved in the crime for their own actions??? I know for a fact that Balanca's has door people who card EVERYONE. Sooo...he either snuck in or had a fake ID. Seems like every time some kid gets shot, the families blame everyone else instead of really looking at what the kid was involved in. Get a grip and come back to reality. This was not Lori's fault.

I am sure Lori instigated it.
Numerous people have seen her drunk off her A$ $ while working behind the bar.
She's instigated and started fights. I'd testify to her seriously threatening to kill people.

hmmm... just guessing here, but it seems that

Cass Jackson = Lori

It's sad that most of the media coverage so far has been about this bar having to shut down for a month and a half. There are far more articles on this aspect of the case than there are about the murder itself.

That bar sucks - it brings nasty old skanks and rTards into an otherwise burgeoning neighborhood. Maybe the owner spent a million dollars on it, but that doesn't really matter. it still should be shut down for its role in precipitating such a crime. I'm willing to guess if the owner did not fire the first shot of the night - itself a violence-provoking hazard (ever heard of ricochet?) this young man would still be alive.

Really? His family blames a bar, that this underage young man willingly chose to sneak in to, for his murder? As far as poor security, if you aren't happy with the security somewhere, and don't feel safe, then you probably should leave upon entrance. That's just common sense. Lori has been very upset about the loss of this young man's life....she may not have the best temper control however; we all have our downfalls. I think it's ignorant for you to bash her over something that she had no control over. That young man could have been in a fight at the skating rink and been shot! I've been going to Balanca's for the past 10 years and have never been shot at, nor have I ever seen Lori fire a gun in her bar. The "dive hole" statement is fuckin hilarious, for a small bar, she has put a lot of money in to upgrading it. It's far from a dive hole. If Lori chooses to fire a gun in order to try to break up a brawl, is that any one of your business? Seems to me that your ignorant asses need a bar stool thrown at you. Get a life and quit blaming Lori for some senseless thug who chose to take this young man's life. Instead of placing blame and talkin trash, why don't you pray for his family who I'm sure is having a very hard time right now. It's really unfortunate that because Lori chose to allow local hiphop performers a chance to promote their talent in her club on Friday nights, that the end result had to be negative just as it always is anytime an establishment encourages that type of crowd. We could name a dozen bars in the KC area who have suffered the same or similar events for the very same reason. You sound as if you have big balls talking so much shit, why don't you quit bein a lil bitch and post your name? NO BITCH~ASS~NESS!

45 days? This little shithole should be permanently closed after their role in this young man's murder. Seriously - it's a dive hole in the wall that just adds to the culture of violence surrounding hip hop and the club way of life. Fuck you Balancas.
