Family members who contributed to J.J. Rizzo's August 3rd primary campaign in the 40th District Representative race also voted illegally for Rizzo, according to Rizzo's opponent, Will Royster.
Chris Moreno, spokesman and adviser for the Royster
campaign, says that John and Clara Moretina are Rizzo's aunt and uncle,
and Frances Moretina is Rizzo's cousin.
The new information regarding Rizzo's family's voting record comes a week after Royster's previous allegations of voter fraud in the August 3 primary, which Royster lost by one vote.
Frances Moretina contributed $269 to the Rizzo campaign in April 2004. She
listed 7205 North Indiana as her address, which is in Clay County.
Frances and her parents, John and Clara Moretina, all voted in the
August primary from 515 Holmes, next door to Rizzo's address at 513
Holmes.
Royster's camp claims county records show that John and
Clara Moretina's cars and tax payments are listed under the Clay County
address at 7105 North Indiana.
When he returned The Pitch's call for comment this morning, Rizzo said, "For four months now, I've put up with [allegations from Royster's campaign] and at some point it has to stop." When asked simply whether the Moretinas are relatives of his, Rizzo said, "I would love to answer all these questions, but every time I do, it gives more play to these things in the news. I know this is the first time we've talked, and I'm sorry it has to be
on your watch, but today it has to stop."
He added that Royster has "clear mental issues."
A ruling from the Missouri appellate court on Royster's motion for a new election due to alleged voter fraud is expected to be handed down this week.
