The Sunflower Showdown is tonight ... but there was a rape on KU's campus yesterday.

The Sunflower Showdown is tonight in Lawrence, and while I'm looking forward to KU and K-State slugging it out, there's bad news in Lawrence.

KMBC Channel 9 reports that a woman reported being raped Wednesday morning between 2:30 and 3:10 in an on-campus parking lot (No. 100 near 14th and Ohio streets), which is close to The Wheel Bar.

The only thing we know about the attacker is that he's of "medium build and possibly white."

KU officials are trying to alert students since the game is in Lawrence

tonight. But alerting students about 24 hours later seems bizarre. So

does the idea that they're alerting students because the game is in

town. Better late than never, I guess.

Hilarious when the readers know how to write headlines better than the newspaper staff.

Did you know this is (at least) the 18th rape that has happened ON campus in the last 5 years.

Why any parent would send their daughter to Rape U, I have no idea.

Way to trivialize rape with talking about football right off the bat!

It also seems unfair for you to use the word claim in your headline. Using that word makes it sound like there is serious reason to doubt her story, as if she said she was abducted by aliens. A woman reported she was raped. There.

Leading a rape story with meaningless fluff about a meaningless football game?

Talk about burying your lead...
