We get used to seeing horrible stories and seeing some happy ending come from them. But a year after a couple of disgruntled employees used pesticide to poison the salsa at the Lenexa Mi Ranchito restaurant, one family is still dealing with medical issues.

KSHB Channel 41 spoke with five of the victims -- all from the same Selleck family and all still dealing with the aftermath. Diners

at the restaurant became sick after eating salsa on August 11 and 30 of

last year.

A total of 48 people fell ill after the poisonings,

suffering nausea, abdominal

cramps, weakness, sweating and discomfort.

Ryan Selleck, 18, is on meds for asthma, anxiety and depression. If that wasn't enough, he has flashbacks to the poisoning.

"Every once in awhile I'll have nightmares of that day. Then

I'll wake up thinking it's real and it scares me so much," said Ryan.

Ryan's mom, Angela Selleck, recalled her 2-year-old daughter getting sick.
"I was in a panic. I was holding her, all of a sudden her body became limp. Her eyes went in the back of her head."
Angela Selleck and her husband, Rob,

are both being treated for anxiety and other medical problems. Rob

blames Mi Ranchito's "owner for not taking action sooner to try to

prevent the mass poisoning."

Mi Ranchito's insurance covered the

family's medical bills for a year but Ryan's having a helluva time

finding an insurance company that will cover him.

In February, a former Mi Ranchito waitress pleaded guilty in federal court to poisoning salsa served to customers. Yini De La Torre, 19, admitted that she added Methomyl-based pesticide to salsa on two occasions and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to tamper with a consumer product.

De La Torre admitted that she and her husband and co-defendant, Arnoldo Bazan,

wanted to get revenge on the restaurant's owner and hurt the

restaurant's business by poisoning customers because Bazan believed the

restaurant's owner cost him a job at the Olathe Mi Ranchito.

The Selleck family wants to thank everyone for their concern and support. Our thoughts are with all the victims involved in this horrendous act of viciousness.

I, for one will never eat there again.

Incidentally, didn't overland park talk about cutting the restaurant inspection staff to zero on the last budget go-round?
