The Carnahan campaign is demanding an apology after an ad by Rove's right-wing American Crossroads group portrayed Carnahan in the wig, which she wore in 2006 after undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
"This is just another disgusting attack from out-of-state corporate
special interest groups who will say and do anything with no regard for
facts or tact," Carnahan spokesman Rachel Barinbaum said Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.
American Crossroads isn't the first to use the photo, the AP points out. The Chamber of Commerce and the 7th District Congressional Republican Committee also used it.
News reports don't specify which photo Carnahan is upset over, but according to the always-reserved AP, it's "not the most unflattering of photos." And even in today's Satan-bitten political climate, it's hard to imagine staffers identifying the wig photo, deciding it was unflattering and intentionally using it to demean Carnahan. Maybe Rove himself would do that, but he's not directly involved in pulling photos for campaign ads. The Wi-Fi signal just isn't strong enough in fiery pit where his cubical is.
Here's an American Crossroads ad that targets Carnahan. If this is the one in question, I can't tell which is the wig photo. Can you?
