A Kansas City, Kansas, woman found out that if you don't pay the Board of Public Utilities what you owe, they'll shut off your power. Even if you're off by just a dime. For real. Just .10 cents.
KCTV5 has the story of a woman whose electricity was shut off because she forgot to pay the change on her $158.10 electric bill.
"It said on the arrangement it was $158.10, but I gave them $158, and I
wasn't thinking about the 10 cents," the woman told KCTV5. "I mean,
usually, most bills would
just add that onto the next part of it."
Not at the BPU. They
shut off her electricity -- and now she's on the hook for $800.
The woman told KCTV5 that she couldn't get any of the higher ups at the
BPU to call her back. And the only thing anyone at the BPU would tell
her was, pay up.
"I don't have it right now, that's why I made arrangements, and they
told me they turned it off for the 10 cents," the woman said. "My
arrangement broke -- for
10 cents."
At least it's not winter ... yet.

I'm not surprised. KCK Board of Public Utilities is one the most corrupt public organizations in the Midwest. It is also one of the most expensive utilities I have ever encountered, but I guess it has to be in order to absorb the rampant graft in WYCO. As far as Im concerned, KCK Unified Government may as well be called "Tammany Hall West."
