Zack Greinke on the trading block? The Kansas City Royals are listening

No one should be surprised that Kansas City Royals ace Zack Greinke is on the trading block. Greinke hasn't exactly been quiet about his displeasure with the Royals habit of losing all of the time.

ESPN's Buster Olney reported that the Royals' timeline for winning -- 2013 or 2014 -- doesn't exactly match up with the length of Greinke's current contract, which expires in 2012. This is all assuming the world doesn't end before the Royals can become winners again (and hey, Royals GM Dayton Moore could be hoping that the apocalypse bails him out of this mess). Fingers crossed!

Onley goes on to write that "the Royals intend to listen to any and all offers for the All-Star right-hander this offseason, according to sources."

Moore addressed the rumors, and his response wasn't exactly shocking.

"We know it's going to make sense, at some point in time, to do

something if we can't sign him beyond 2012," Moore told the Star (here's a link to the Sporting News because the Star will lock its story behind a paywall in about five seconds from now). We've just got to measure

how (any deal) fits in today and long-term."

So what do the Royals want? "Multiple ready-now prospects" is the Star's speculation. The Sporting News speculates that Greinke's partial no-trade clause could be a stumbling block. Unless the Royals try to trade him to the Pittsburgh Pirates, I doubt it's a factor.
