Because Kansas City isn't a complete black hole of infinite sadness and despair, there's this story: After 12 years in a Kansas City shelter, Michelle the cat has a forever home.
The Star's Dawn Borman has Michelle's heartwarming story. She was abandoned at the Humane Society of Greater Kansas
City when she was just seven months old, then known as Nikki. She was left in a carrier with an apologetic handwritten note.
"Sorry to drop her off like this. Her name is Nikki and she's about 7 months old. Where I live I can't keep her she was getting beat on I hope and pray there is nothing wrong with her. I have no place to go so I brought her to you. Please make sure she finds a good home. Never been outside or around dogs, only children. Thank you."
Michelle's days of trying to find a home finally ended Tuesday when Dona Corben adopted her -- passing up lots of cute kitties.
I'm tearing up just writing this. Hey, I'm not totally devoid of feeling, you jackals."They're cute, but this is an old chick. I need an old cat," she said.
