New York Times: Sam Brownback will bring an end to political discourse in Kansas

  • Moderates, shmoderates. Brownback and the far-right are poised to rule Kansas.

The New York Times published a story yesterday with clear message to political moderates and social progressives in Kansas: Flee.

The Gray Lady's boy wonder, A.G. Sulzberger (who lives here now! How famous-y!), reports that Sen. Sam Brownback, all-but-assured to become the 46th governor of the Sunflower State, will be the death knell for civilized politics in Kansas.

In a grim dispatch from Paola, Sulzberger reports that Brownback's election will ensure that middle of the road Republicans will be banished, and the right wing will be restored to glory. Finally Kansas' future as the hallowed land without happy hours, business regulations and abortion clinics is ensured.

Baby Sulz got a handful of money-quotes that lead readers to believe

the

future of Kansas is nothing less than terrifying for centrists and

lefties.

Boo Tyson, the executive director of nonpartisan outfit MAINStream

Coalition, straight-up declared moderation dead, saying: "At this point

the conservatives have won."

Current Gov. Mark Parkinson took that fear mongering even further, saying: "There will

never again, ever, be a moderate Republican governor. Those

days are over."

Kansans for Life executive director Mary Kay Culp could barely stop

salivating long enough to comment for the story as she contemplated what

Brownback would mean for her band of anti-abortion folks. "There is

certainly excitement that when we put a bill on his desk that

he is going to sign it," she told the paper.

And, of course, Tom Holland, the moderate mosquito in Brownback's ear,

got a

lame jab in at his gubernatorial opponent. "Kansans want moderate

leadership," he said.

That might be true, but polls show quite conclusively that they don't

want him.

As a public service, we remind Kansans that our shared border remains

open, and living here is cheap.

Living on your side of the state line is cheap for a reason, Ben. They'd have to elect Rush, O'Reilly, or Hannity before I'd even consider switching.

It's much better than opining with no particular valid point. Name calling the opposing viewpoint is most childish. Brownback was a US Rep., Senator, and most likely an ELECTED Governor. Perhaps you should refer to the electorate, like yourself, as dim-witted.

Opinions like those of CK above -- although a rant like that hardly rises to the level of thoughtful opinion -- are the reason why dim-witted promoters of ignorance like Brownback are able to get into public office.

Ok, so let's kill our babies, get drunk, high, cancerous, and then let our neighbors pay for our really asinine behavior in government supplied medical insurance. Let's be so afraid of global climate change that we put our neigbor out of work at the power plant to save the damn horny toads. Let's legalize undocumented workers jumping our fences so religious extremists of other nations blow our shit up. Let's save Europe's economy while destroying ours. Let's care about the poor in Africa, but be to damn lazy to do anything about it. Save the damn dogs in the animal shelters before we give a damn about actual HUMAN possibilies(abortion). Conservative? Yeah, you're damn right I am.
