The Associated Press delicately danced around the torture in the lead of a story raising questions about the accuser in the Lebanon, Missouri, sex slave case.
The allegations in the indictment were shocking: A young woman had been held captive for years as the sex slave of a Missouri couple. She had been locked in a cage and subjected to electrical shocks. Parts of her body had been nailed to wooden planks.
The "parts" in question, an indictment says, are the woman's "labia and nipples." There were also accusations of waterboarding, performing abortions with "speculums, vacuums and clothing hangers" on the girl and sewing the woman's "urinary opening and vagina shut" among several other claims. This may surprise you but the man accused of orchestrating it all, 43-year-old Ed Bagley, has his defenders, including his wife.
Marilyn Bagley told the AP that the girl wasn't a runaway; she was the ex-girlfriend of her son. But when they broke up, the girl decided she wanted to live with the Bagleys because the relationship with her adopted parents "soured."
Marilyn Bagley also told the AP that she shared her bed with the girl, but her husband didn't have sex with the girl until she turned 18. She also claimed that prosecutors threatened to charge her if she didn't testify against her husband (she's refusing to do so).
So why would the girl claim otherwise? Marilyn Bagley believes the girl's family talked her into it after being taken to a hospital in cardiac arrest, which prosecutors claim was the result of a torture session. However, Marilyn Bagley claims the woman was getting ready for work at the time of the heart attack.
"She started seizing, and when sheEd Bagley is also accused of forcing the woman work at a strip club and taking her earnings. However, an exotic dancer told the AP that the woman enjoyed the attention, including showing off the issue of Taboo magazine with her on the cover.was done, she stopped breathing. Ed gave her CPR. I was on the phone to
911. We were freaking out. We didn't know what to do," she said.
"ThisI'm not sure someone could consent to having their lady parts nailed to a wooden block. Then again, people are into some freaky shit.girl was spoiled," said Katie Smothers, who said she spent time at
Bagley's trailer when she needed a place to stay but never participated
in bondage activities.
"She would take customers to show them her magazine, and she had a bucket of photos at the bar. She bragged about it."
