The funniest signs at Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity ... from half a mile away

Like 215,000 other Americans this weekend, I went to Washington, D.C., for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear on Saturday. And like thousands of those people, I was too far away to see a damn thing.

The closest I edged to the stage was half a mile, and it was a hectic scene even that far out with costumed weirdos, self-consciously funny apolitical signs, and for some frustrating reason, parents with babies (Why the hell would you push a stroller with a terrified

10-month-old who has long since soiled himself through a crowd of

thousands of shouting people?). They were all shoving to get closer to the action without even knowing which direction the stage was. It was a groper's paradise.

Despite getting enough port-a-potties for 150,000, event organizers

didn't get enough Jumbotrons or speakers for that many people, leaving

us unfortunate saps at 7th Street and Madison straining to hear, much

less catch a glimpse of what I later read was a great show. So, while I was being jostled between sweaty backs ("It's like the most crowded club ever, times a

hundred!" one frustrated attendee warned newcomers as he left the

scene.), I busied myself taking photos of the fairly amusing signs. Here

are the best I saw.
