It's never too soon to be thinking about the next election (please, kill me). I mean, it's only two years away. What else could we talk about in that time?

No, the time is apparently right to warn the next round of incumbents that their day of reckoning is near.

The National Journal reported this morning that U.S. Sen. Claire "Bear" McCaskill is a 2012 target in increasingly bloody red Missouri:

"Republicans have won six Democratic-held Senate seats, too, drastically cutting into the majority's margins. And this is only the beginning; in 2012, Democrats will defend 21 seats, including some members who will face tough reelects. Sens. Claire McCaskill (Mo.), Bill Nelson (Fla.), Ben Nelson (Neb.) and Sherrod Brown (Ohio) are waking up targets."

And on the House take-over by the GOP:

The National Journal notes that "at least half the Blue Dog Caucus won't be back for the 112th Congress." McCaskill is a card-carrying Blue Dog member, so she may want to heed the warning. Or she could sit back and wait for everyone who voted for Republicans, like, say Roy Blunt, to realize their vote went to a career politician. But the D.C. party scene, thanks you.
