Felons, can we be real for a minute? I know you guys like guns, but why can't you leave 'em at home when you have priors? This never ends well. Just ask Nicholas C. Garrett.
Garrett is only 24, but he's racked up two prior felony convictions -- one in Jackson County in 2008 and one in Shawnee County in 2009 -- that bar him from carrying a gun. So what's he do? On October 5, the day after his 24th birthday, he allegedly carries a gun on the campus of Kansas City, Kansas, Community College.
Police received a report of a man on campus carrying a gun and arrested Garrett. Now, Garrett's been indicted on a federal charge of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. And for that late birthday present, he's looking at a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000.
Bet he wishes he'd left the gun at home now.
