In January, will we look back on the Chiefs' overtime loss to the Raiders and see the beginning of how the AFC West was lost?
The loss puts Oakland right behind the Chiefs for the AFC West division crown, and the Raiders owe it all to Sebastian Janikowski's foot and Jacoby Ford's spectacular plays.
Ford made plays straight out of the Madden football video game.
The rookie returned the opening kick of the second half for a touchdown. There was also the crucial fourth quarter catch that Ford pulled out of the clutches of Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers for a 29-yard gain that set up the game-tying field goal form the 22. If Flowers intercepts that ball, it's game, set, match.
In overtime, the Chiefs won the toss, took the ball and proceeded to go three-and-out. The Raiders came out firing, with quarterback Jason Campbell completing a 47-yard pass to a diving Ford at the Chiefs' 15-yard line. This set up the game-winning field goal. Raiders 23, Chiefs 20. It's a heart-breaker because it's one that got away.
The Chiefs and Raiders will meet again in the final week of the regular season -- January 2 at Arrowhead Stadium.
Next up, another division rival on the road, the 2-6 Denver Broncos. A Chiefs win puts distance between them and the Raiders, who don't play this week.
Masochists, relive the pain below.
