When a child named Curtis Bowen was slapped by his teacher at Martin Luther King Jr., Elementary School, no one really heard about it. Except for President Obama, Vice President Biden, their wives, three senators, and more than 20 other officials.
They all were CC'ed on the whopping 40-page letter that Curtis' mother, Lisa Henry Bowen, sent to school district superintendent John Covington. In it, Bowen makes mind-boggling demands for reparations. One recipient called the letter "one of the craziest things I've ever seen" and leaked it to the Internet.
Lisa Henry Bowen, who copyrights her name and her son's name throughout the letter, kicks it off by identifying herself as the "intellectual property owner" of fourth grader Curtis Bowen. She alleges that Curtis was caught horse-playing and was slapped by a teacher (whose name we'll withhold, since the letter isn't oozing with credibility). Lisa Henry tried to report the teacher to social services for child abuse, but claims she was denied because Curtis' skin wasn't broken.
That sent Lisa Henry into a spiral of outrage. She calls the teacher "one audacious white bitch with 'balls,' then conducts some informal gonad comparisons. "I happen to have some big 'balls' too. And I ain't afraid to use them." (All emphasis hers, throughout.)
Bowen uses her balls-to-the-wall logic to devise a way for the school district to repay her. She claims the teacher slapped 1/4 of Curtis' "million dollar face." Therefore, she encloses a homemade bill for a quarter million dollars. The bill is issued to five educational entities, so she's really demanding more than $1 million.
And that's just page eight!
The weird part about her list of demands is that most of them have nothing to do with her child being slapped. Sure, she makes a few perfunctory demands to improve the school district, including the introduction of a "We Don't Hit Kids Here" campaign throughout Kansas City and a revocation of the teacher's license. But she reserves the real meat of reparations for Curtis and herself.
Curtis shall receive, among many other things: $13,500 worth of Wal-Mart gift cards; a free college education; two trips to Disney World; nine years of private tennis lessons on the Plaza; season tickets to the opera, theater, and ballet; almost a decade's worth of psychological counseling by "the best black child psychologist in the country;" a whole orchestra's worth of new musical instruments; a three-week trip to Africa at a five-star hotel; and a personal audience with President Obama.
Her demands for herself are just as WTF-worthy. She demands the full payment of her mortgage, a new car, home remodeling, free psychological, dental, and medical care for the next nine years, and the cherry on the sundae:

Yes the teacher should be disciplined (not fired), but then again I'm of the opinion that teachers should have the right to discipline children if they're doing something they're not supposed to. I personally think this whole thing is an Onionesque parody. Can't find any supporting documentation from any Kansas City News or Television websites. Pitch seems to be the only original source. She wrote the letter 10/27/2010. You would think that the national media would have covered this by now.

Why is she getting any publicity at all? She's a nut like the thousands of other nuts who write tirades to public officials about their slights, real or immagined.
She would have gotten further by documenting the slap, if it occurred, and filing a complaint or regular old lawsuit against the district. She would have received a settlement and the teacher might have even gotten fired if something really went down.
But now she has blown all credibility. So by letting her rant she is exposing herself as the one who is going to come out on the losing end of this. I do feel sorry for the kid who apparently is not being raised well (acting out in class to begin with) and is being influenced by this woman's nutty ideas and is being made a spectecal by his mother.

Curtis didn't even get slapped. I contacted the local police department and they completed an investigation and "allegedly" Curtis just made the whole story up. His teachers say he has a "creative imagination" and frequently made up stories that turned out to be untrue. Mrs. Curtis, you need to stop bringing race into the equation everytiime something that you disagree with happens. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "we should not be judged by the color of our skin but by the content of the character" so in other words stop bringing up color! My wife (white) taught for one year in an all black rural school. She and the librarian were the only whites in the building. Not only were the students out of control, but the adults were as well.
When my wife witnessed a teacher's aide strike a child across the face with a round house slap, so hard it knocked him down, she immediately went to the office and reported it. But the black women working in the office overheard her and immediately hatched a plot against her.
My wife was confronted by a large mob of black teachers and the janitor in her classroom the next day and was told she was going to get her a** beat. My wife was 6 months pregnant at the time. But she wasn't intimidated by them, called their bluff and then called the cops.
And that got her drummed out of the public school system. So what? She now teaches private school and loves it.
