Kansas City Chiefs coach Todd Haley didn't do anything to dispel the notion that he's kind of a dick after yesterday's 49-29 drubbing at the hands of the Denver Broncos. Getty Images' Justin Edmonds' photo says it all. Haley snubbed Denver coach Josh McDaniels during the post-game handshake. He also appears to have some choice words for McDaniels while wagging his finger. What was that all about?
No one's sure. In Haley's post-game presser, he talked in circles without saying anything, ensuring he's going to get even more questions about it, which will no doubt lead him to get pissy.
Here's what Haley said, and good luck to you if you can decipher it:
"That's a private time between head coaches that has become not so private, but the key I would say, probably the thing that you're asking about, is that I've been in this enough as an assistant coach, as a head coach now, to be in some of these games. And the important thing for me as a head coach is that our team continue to just play hard and play our hearts out and keep fighting until the end."Sometimes, you see indicators on the other side of where that team thinks the game is. We've been on the other side of this and we've been on this side of it and we've been ... again, let's just keep it at that."
Huh?
There's lots of speculation. Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter reported on Twitter that "Haley was not happy with broncos max protecting, throwing deep & blitzing regularly with a 32-point 4th-Q lead."
If that's what was bugging Haley, why not just say it? End the speculation.
Whatever the reason, Haley's snub was pretty classless. But one that we all love. The Chiefs and Broncos are rivals. With the Chiefs back in contention -- the Chiefs are now 5-4, tied with the Oakland Raiders at the top of the AFC West, which is very much anyone's division at this point -- "the snub" adds gasoline to a rivalry that needed an accelerator.

I laughed when I saw this Sunday night, though the other members of my family didnt seem to notice it. Now sure it might be a bit classless to snub a fellow coach, but I'm not complaining. Who cares if Haley is a dick, we knew that before we took him as our head coach. And in the end I don't think a hand shake is important, what's important is how the Chiefs pick up the pieces from this game and move on to next Sunday.
I have no idea what Haley was really doing and I agree that he can be a dick, but they're friends in real life, so I don't make much of this handshake thing.
This shows a total lack of class, and why the Chefs will NOT make the playoffs this year.
I'm not a huge McDaniel fan, but at least he had the class to shack hands with Cable when the Raiders destroyed the Broncos three weeks ago.
"Private time"? Sure, in front of thousands of fans and millions of viewers, right in the middle of an NFL stadium. This guy is bonkers.

Out of all things written or said by the sports writers and radio hosts in KC, this line best reflects my thoughts on the situation. I completely agree. Also I didn't think I would ever despise a Bronco's head coach as much as I did Shanahan, but McDaniels has somehow found a way to make me do so. I love Haley's non-handshake and it would have only been topped by Haley acting like he wanted to shake hands and then giving McDaniels the ol' to slow.
