Remember all of the controversy over culling deer in Shawnee Mission Park? The deer head of Victoria? The buckets of blood? Birth control for deer? It was so much fun last year that we're going to do it all over again.
The Johnson County Parks and Rec board voted Wednesday to thin the herd by 33 deer, according to the Star. This comes after the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks determined that the deer population topped 60 deer per square mile. Parks people want it down to 50. So will we get another contentious fight between the parks board and animal rights activists?
It's not looking good. Only one person spoke against the hunt at
yesterday's meeting, according to the Star. And it wasn't Jason Miller.
I e-mailed Miller to see what's up, but haven't heard from him (I'll update if he does respond). He stopped updating the Bite Club of KC website in August. His other blog hasn't been updated since late September. So maybe he's moved on.
Sharpshooters could begin the hunt later this month with meat from the hunt going to local food pantries and shelters.

I really wish some of these animal activists could visit California area's where they have had their way. I recently stayed with a relative out there. There are diseased mangy sick deer stumbling around the neighbourhood with open sores.
No one will put them down for fear of the ordinances that have been put into effect. Most of the people out there don't even have a rifle to put them down with. People are terrified that their domestic animals will get diseases from the droppings. It is a real mess when common sense goes out the window. Culling a herd like this is by far more humane thing to do.
There are more deer in this country now than there were in 1900. And, while I am not in favor of the indiscriminate killing of any animal, these deer are a menace to us and each other. It is high time that the popular press stops romanticizing the alleged nobility of animals.
Next up is a season on whiney libtards, and this season goes year long, with no bag limits. The effects of this season will be a marked decrease in deficit spending and the subsidization of losers who don't want to work. Any methods of harvest are deemed acceptable...
