What are your biggest turnoffs in a restaurant? Dirty bathrooms? A server with poor personal hygiene? A waiter who looks like he just rolled out of bed?
How about the stench of bus tubs stacked with dirty dishes or a dining room reeking of mothballs?
An elderly Northland couple called the cops on themselves 10 times in five months. Sometimes, the husband would call with health-related questions. Other times, the wife was calling for help resolving a marital spat.
Kansas City police officers J.D. Pettey and Philip Sipple responded to each call. The husband was usually drunk when the officers arrived, they noted, and the wife appeared to have a hoarding problem. Rather than ignoring the couple's obvious issues, the cops did something innovative: They helped.
There's nothing like a good old ball-busting roast to get a party started. Billy Belzer -- who's been a member of Mongol Beach Party, New Amsterdams, The Ssion and Uncle Tupelo member -- is hosting a multi-media show at the RecordBar on December 17. Here's the skinny:
I'm hosting a show at Kansas City's RecordBar that will benefit Kansas City Free Health Clinic's HIV Testing programs. The show's theme is a 'roast' of myself in which i play with my current bands The Sleazebeats and Mary Fortune. The Master (Mistress) of ceremonies is Shannon Michaelski who also sings in SSION and is entrusted, for the evening, with busting my chops between musical sets. There will be special guests, power point presentations, local celebrities and costume changes. FUN!
They lift their forks to their mouths in the hopes that one day what they do will matter. Mounds of hamburgers and dozens of pizza are consumed, all in the name of not letting meal-plan credits expire.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the University of Maryland's Competitive Eating Club, and according to AOL News, they just want somebody to eat against. Because, you see, the nation's first competitive eating club doesn't yet have competition.
UPDATE: Kansas City police have identified the homicide victim from 44th an Myrtle as 29-year-old Ivan J. Miller. Police are still seeking leads in the case, so if you know something, call 816-474-8477.

their info to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office soon.
Kansas college students, one man is fighting for your right to bear arms on campus. Republican state Rep. Forrest Knox told the Star that he's going to push a bill that would allow students to carry concealed firearms in buildings without security measures like metal detectors or guards.
"My plan is to move that forward," Knox told the Star. "We will revise it somewhat and
try to deal with situations, realistic situations, in public buildings. ... If you deny my right to provide for my own security, then you need to
provide for my security."
I imagine Knox was firing two pistols in the air while saying this, and the Star's copy editors cut the yeehaw!
While the rest of us either spent Black Friday fighting ravenous hordes for a discount Nintendo Wii, or sleeping off a turkey hangover, attorney Dick Bryant was getting ready for the next step in the fight for strip club rights in Missouri.
Friday happened to be the unfortunate day when Bryant learned that a Cole County judge ruled against Missouri's strip clubs' lawsuit to overturn a new law banning nude dancing and alcohol sales. But the clubs aren't done fighting.
