Kansas City Chiefs have a worse chance of making the playoffs than the Chargers?

The Kansas City Chiefs sit one-game up on the San Diego Chargers in the race for the AFC West. That doesn't matter much to Football Outsiders, whose latest playoff odds has the Chargers taking the division and the Chiefs with just a 51 percent chance of making the playoffs at all.

The Chiefs are 7-4 with a victory over the 6-5 Chargers. Still, Football Outsiders likes the Chargers to make the playoffs, giving them 57 percent odds. This seems like a bunch of crap to me given Kansas City has very winnable games coming up at home with Denver, Tennessee and Oakland (and a road trip at San Diego to end all off the talk). See the full odds after the jump.

To jjskck.Im tired of so called Chiefs fans and their pessimism(which is solely based on the past).Presumption and pessimism can neither win or lose a game.If that were true i'd be wishing a Super Bowl win for the Chiefs every year.Deep fried crow is much cheaper than turkey anyway lol!

Your presumptuous comment about the Chargers is based on their momentum alone.Don't forget, the Chiefs have some momentum of their own as well.Talk is cheap but all-you-can eat crow is free. Especially since you looked past Oakland. lmao!
p.s.-San diego's QB is much better than Cassel my ass!

Crap? No, realistic. The chargers also have an easy schedule ahead of them with a proven track recored and lets face it....a much better quarterback. The odds are based on this smart guy......in the event of a tie with the Chargers at 11-5 and the Chiefs at 11-5 the Chargers win the tie breaker and take the division. Plus, the Chargers and Chiefs play in San Diego and your team only beat the Chargers in the first week because of crap special teams play. So playing the Chargers at home doesn't look like a win for the Chiefs. Hey, I'm a homer for san diego just like you are for Kansas City but to call it crap is way off. The reason people think the Chargers will win out is because they are coming together like they always have in the second half of the season and because they play a bunch of teams with losing records. This is why they are coming up with those odds. You guys have to look past your own schedule and look at the schedule of the team you are competing with as well. The fact is that both teams hold their own fate in their hands. If the Chiefs win out they take the division, if the Chargers win out they take the division. It's simple. Who is more likely to win out? Think about it........

agreed...sucks, but it's true. our earlier losses may come back to bite us in the ass if we don't tcb and win out.

These are the same dipshits who said the Chiefs had a 94% chance of making the playoffs after six games.

I will say, however, that this breakdown makes sense. If you look at their chances of winning the division, it's basically a coin flip. If the Chiefs win in San Diego, they will win the division. If they don't, they're in trouble because right now they'd lose tiebreakers with almost every other team in the conference (which is why their Wild Card percentage is so low).

The Chiefs and Chargers both have very easy schedules down the stretch; in fact, the Chargers' slate is probably a little easier. Given that SD will be favored in their head-to-head game, I think these numbers are about right.
