Finally, there's a store in the metro with prices I can afford -- FREE! Starting Saturday at 10 a.m. nearly new clothes, toys and (actually new) food will be available, sans price tag, at The Free Store, 205 South Green in Lee's Summit.
Because a business model like this couldn't possibly work forever,
the shop's only open through the holiday season, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Monday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays, until Christmas.
The operation is a venture of Life Under Construction, an outreach of Heaven's Gate Gospel Church of Lee's Summit. That's not the same as the Heaven's Gate cult, although in a way, mustachioed man of God and pastor of HGGC Jim R. Wining does actually have a more intimidating look than androgynous cult-leader Marshall Applewhite.
Wining is more Heaven's Gate with Kris Kristofferson than Heaven's Gate with suicidal tendencies.
