There are plenty of fine ways to get a boy to quit hanging around you daughter. Bribery is a fair option. Allegedly grabbing your daughter's pesky ex-boyfriend by the neck, however, is not a good plan. Especially in a police department parking lot. Super-especially when the county prosecutor and cops witness the incident.
That's the way Hutchinson Police Captain and Assistant Police Chief Troy Hoover allegedly dealt with his daughter's ex- in late November, which earned Hoover a suspension from work.
Stacey Hem, 25, has asked the local NAACP chapter to investigate the
incident, which he says went down this way:
Hoover told Hem to quit bothering his 18-year-old daughter. Hem replied
that Hoover's daughter is an adult and can make her own decisions. So
Hoover grabbed him by the neck before bystanders broke up the scuffle.
For her part, the daughter had recently complained to the Reno County
Sheriff's Office about Hem harassing her on the phone.
Hem didn't file a police report, but the Kansas Bureau of Investigation
is looking into the incident since the county prosecutor witnessed the two
scrapping. The NAACP is also investigating the fight, and they say
they're worried about how police are dealing with one of their own.
Darrell Pope, president of the Hutchinson NAACP chapter told
the KAKE-TV:
"We'd just like toknow that
something is actually happening and it isn't just a deal where the fox
is watching the chicken house," Pope said. "We hope they don't just do
some window dressing and go back to business as usual."
City officials haven't released much information about
how tough they're being with Hoover. They have acknowledged that he's on
leave, but don't say if it's paid or unpaid and how long he's going to
be away from work.
It might not be the most mature or legal method of dealing with a creep
that is bothering your daughter, but Hem probably won't be calling up the
Hoover household any time soon.
