KSHB reporter Ryan Kath posted this on Twitter: @LindsayShively talking to witness who said gunman started shooting inside church during funeral service... right now on @NBCActionNews
The funeral in question is for Marion Denmon, the cousin of Missouri Tigers basketball star Marcus Denmon. KMBC Channel 9 reports that the service was just letting out when someone opened fire. The Star reports
that shots were fired outside of the Macedonia Baptist Church at 25th and Benton around
12:20 p.m. leading to "chaotic scene" with about 300 people spilling
into the street from the funeral.
Just 10 minutes later, a second report
of shots fired came in -- this time outside of Wheatley Elementary
School, 2415 Agnes Avenue. The school was reportedly put on lockdown.
The Star reports that witnesses said the gunfire sounded like it was from a semi-automatic or automatic weapon.
No injuries have been reported other than a person may have broken an arm diving for cover.
Police are on the lookout for a maroon vehicle.
Marion Denmon was shot on December 3 after getting caught in a crossfire between two vehicles on Cleaver II and Elmwood around 2:19 a.m. He later died from his wounds. He was 20 years old.
UPDATE: KMBC's Kris Ketz reports via Twitter that one person is in custody at 27th and Indiana. Click here for live footage of the scene.
