Mizzou students love the drugs; MU ranked 39th druggiest college

The endless roll out of rankings have finally come to this: The 50 Druggiest Colleges. Not exactly a distinction that these universities of higher learning (ha!) will tout in brochures to prospective students. But let's face it, the kids love the drugs.

So here's the University of Missouri-Columbia at No. 39 in the rankings, according to the list whores at The Daily Beast. No other institution in Missouri or Kansas made the list, which isn't to say they're not without issues. Every college has 'em.

But here's the highlights of how Mizzou made the cut, which might explain the double "z" spelling. Missouri gets a C+ drug use. So Tigers, you're about average. In 2009, 104 arrests were made on-campus for breaking drug laws. Now let's look at the percentages:

  • 18.7 percent of 18- to 25-year-olds statewide use drugs regularly.
  • 25.45 percent of 18- to 25-year-olds statewide smoke marijuana.
  • 5.93 percent of 18- to 25-year-olds statewide use cocaine.
Look at it this way, at least Missouri isn't the University of New Hampshire, which tops the list. Can you blame the 29 percent of kids there for getting blazed?

Oddly, the University of Iowa didn't crack the top 50 -- even after the Hawkeyes' career leader in receiving was arrested for living in a drug house (among other things). At least both schools will have a lot to talk about during the Insight Bowl.

@ Nick, Yeah, a poor showing on the football field at CU followed by not even making the list. Not a good year for ISU.

Sorry for your college's poor showing, Justin.

I am a little surprised CU was ranked merely 5th. On the plus side, however, we're rated higher than several of our new conference bunkies: OU, OSU, WSU and Cal.

So, yeah - we got that going for us.
