Sarah Steelman's U.S. Senate campaign is less than a month old, and she's already having to fend off unflattering newspaper stories.
Sunday's St. Louis Post-Dispatch drew attention to the lameness of one of Steelman's major issues. As Missouri treasurer, Steelman made a big deal about "terror-free" investing. But her personal portfolio has held stock in companies that do business in Iran, Cuba, Sudan and Syria, financial disclosure statements show.
Steelman was elected state treasurer in 2004. She claimed that her office was the first public agency in U.S. to steer its money away from companies that did business in countries such as Iran and Syria. She also criticized the state pension board for not doing enough to make sure its portfolio was clean of investments in states that sponsor terrorism.
Steelman says she's sold the mutual funds that she would have criticized as state treasurer. She told the Post-Dispatch that individual investors do not have access to terror-free products available to institutional investors. Wait, isn't socially responsible investing something that people have pulled off since Quakers pored over ledgers by candelight?
Steelman competed with Kenny Hulshof for the Republican nomination for governor in 2008. She's now aiming for the Senate seat that Claire McCaskill will defend for the first time in 2012.
A self-described "angry tea partier" is taking credit for putting the Post-Dispatch on the investment story. According to Politico's Dave Catanese, Francis Marion sent an e-mail to reporters blasting Steelman's "broken promises" on terror-free investing. Marion (pseudonym alert) says more revelations are to come:
This is the second in a series of memos being distributed to select media outlets to expose parts of Sarah Steelman's record that you may not be familiar with. Please let me know if you are interested in any exclusives like the Post Dispatch got from us.Marion, Catanese reports, is also riding Steelman for having ties to trial attorneys, "an issue that caused the candidate some problems in GOP circles during her 2008 gubernatorial run."

how moral of you and compassionate... there is nothing righteous about you, you are just like the rest of the moral right scum
Gays are faggots. Dick in asshole isn't naturally correct. Michael(comment above) is less than human. Die faggot, die!

Dikes suck too. Hands in pussys isn't right either.
I might think about sex with a 9 y/o girl before I would go gay. Let's all be realistic now, shall we? Pedophilia is more natural than homosexuality. True 'dat!
Sarah Steelman is a horrible, horrible person. She led the state's anti-gay tirade a few years ago, and when I tried to engage her in a discussion about it, she could provide no cogent explanation for her opposition, aside from 'it's wrong'. She is an opportunist with no ability to think and reason. There's no reason a moron like this should even be in the same ring with McCaskill, but this is Missouri. We must spread the word before this mental midget becomes a serious candidate.
