Since people get their vehicle registration sticker ripped right off the plate every day in Missouri, and especially in the metro, the state's Department of Revenue has announced a supposedly great idea to deter theft and make it easier for cops to tell if you're driving around with stolen tags.
With the Enhanced Security Tabs -- announced just a month or so ago -- you'll be able to see numbers on the sticker's right-hand side that will match your license plate number. The idea is, your tags are now worthless on their own, so why bother to scrape them off? The plan's only weakness is that it is stupid.
It's stupid because people just unbolt the whole goddamn plate now. That's all. Then they bolt it to their car, and drive around and rob people and you totally get blamed for it because they give the plate that's registered to you when the victim files a police report. That is how the law works, and why most Missourians will be in prison some time during their adult life. It is all the Department of Revenue's fault.
I know this because my plates were stolen, and it sucks. Sure, it's impossible to bitch about having your plates stolen in this town because it's not like I was shot in the face for the change in my pocket or raped or something, and really it's only a minor annoyance to go to the cops and the DMV and file the reports. But come on Missouri Department of Revenue, don't act like you're doing me any favors. Your plan sucks, and I don't want to keep paying for new shit.

You obviously have no idea about law enforcement or the use your plates and the stickers serve. First, yes your plates can get stolen, and I'm sorry your's did, however the plates are unique to the vehicle, and not just by the numbers. The Missouri plates are numbered a certain way so that they are distinct to either a car or a truck. Also, all an officer has to do is run those plates and it will come back to the vehicle registered to, which will not math the vehicle of the person who stole the tags, unless it is the exact same car, which most theives don't worry about. If they only stole your sticker it would not matter if the vehicle matched because the sticker was not unique to the plate of the vehicle until now. As a police officer I can tell you it will greatly help to reduce the number of stolen stickers and stolen tags for that matter.
