Director Kevin Smith's fascination with Fred Phelps' gay-hating, soldier-funeral-picketing family finally comes with a release dated for the Westboro Baptist Church-inspired Red State.

The teaser trailer -- you can watch it after the jump -- gives a March release date. The film's premiere screen is slated for the Sundance Film Festival in January.

The Westboro inspiration is clear in the teaser trailer, which features the Phelps-like family picketing with signs ... just like Shirley Phelps-Roper and the rest of the clan. Michael Parks also makes it clear in the teaser that he's going to be every bit as creepy as the pastor character.

Here's the latest Red State summary (via Slash Film):

Ever since Clerks (cowinner of the Filmmakers Trophy at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival), Kevin Smith has been known for his sharp, subversive, comedic writing. He shifts from comedy to horror with Red State and aptly demonstrates that good writing transcends genre.

Red State begins by following three horny high-school boys who come across an online ad from an older woman looking for a gang bang. Boys being boys, they hit the road to satisfy their libidinal urges. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying "holy" force with a fatal agenda.

Instead of relying on archetypes and predictable formulas, Smith meticulously fashions all-too-real characters, utilizing exceptional performances (notably by Michael Parks) and an intelligent script. His realistic style gives the film an intimate feeling, heightening the terror to biblical proportions. Red State is a shocking new kind of horror film that aggressively confronts higher powers and extreme doctrines with a vengeance.

I really can't wait to see the film.

OOPS, It is in fact NOT called Super Fried, but instead, Burning Freak! That was a very small girl's backup vocals. But it gave me the chance to record my parody of Bette Midler's "From A Distance!" That blasphemous little number is now going to be better named "There Is No Distance" a/k/a "God Has Sent Us" which I must admit has a MOST beautiful melody!

@MargieJPhelps is killing me with all that writing! She writes a parody on a dime! Amazing! A gift from our Heavenly Father to help this little Flock of Slaughter to finish our testimony to this rebellious Doomed nation!

Ciao

I love this! I get to go picket the showing of RedState at Sun Dance Film Festival! @MeganPhelps is going with me. Plus, @WBCSteve will be there! Also, you can now follow me on Twitter @DearShirley I figured if the rebels pretend to be me, I might as well do it myself!

Better still, Merry XMass you pagan rebels (God Hates Christmas, it is pagan Idolatry!), WBC rolled out our nice new web page in honor of the media! www.GodHatesTheMedia.com. Sorry Justin Kendall, you didn't make the first cut, but I'm rooting for you in the next cut or the one after that! Tee Hee!

We are up to about 75 parodies now, and the latest Video that is posting today is the Music Video to our Parody of Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight." Our parody is called "Destruction Is Our Prayer Tonight!"

Now, I must run, because I must do the backup vocals on our parody of Rick James "Super Freak" - in honor of our coming picket of Teena Marie's entry into hell! It's called "Super Fried" - well - that may just be a working title! It should be out before the day is over! YAY!

Don't ask, just enjoy!
