A quarrel in the frozen-foods aisle turned into a bloodbath on the streets last weekend.
On New Year's Day, a man and his wife walked to the Apple Market near Independence Avenue and Monroe. Police records show that while they were grocery shopping, they got into an argument with 23-year-old Brenda Brown, a stranger. The Kansas City Star adds that it was an argument about, of all things, ice cream. The three exchanged heated words, but it didn't become physical, and the couple left the market shortly after.
It was then that Brenda Brown allegedly made up her mind about what flavor she wanted: death by vengeance.
When Brown allegedly came through the checkout line, the woman who sacked
her groceries told police that she remembered Brown being on her cell phone
ranting, "I feel like killing her."
The husband told police that he and his wife were crossing the street to go back home when he saw a silver PT Cruiser careening down the road. Going north, the crazed driver made a fast turn over to the southbound lane and barreled the silver bullet toward the couple, striking the wife 10 feet in the air. The car also smashed into the man's shopping cart, but he jumped out of the way and avoided being struck.
Police traced the state benefit card that the assailant had used to purchase her groceries, and it was matched to Brown. Two days later, police traveled to her residence and found a silver PT Cruiser in the parking lot with a shattered windshield and bloodstains on the hood.
The Star reported that the victim remains in a coma.
Brown is charged with assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and armed criminal action. If the accusations are true, Brown's long jail sentence will be the cherry on top.
