  • Deborah Meeks will spend more than 12 years in prison for killing her boyfriend.

For shooting and killing her boyfriend four days before Christmas in 2009, Deborah Meeks will spend 13 years in prison.

This past November, five days before her 48th birthday, Meeks was convicted of second-degree murder for killing her boyfriend, Wesley Smith, by shooting him in the chest. Authorities reportedly believed this to be a case of domestic violence (something Plog commenters noted when this story was first reported). Last Friday, she was sentenced to 155 months in prison.

Smith's body was found on December 21, 2009, inside a residence

in the 2900 block of Hutchings Street in Kansas City, Kansas. He was 53.

Meeks was charged with his killing two days later.
