The former Independence pastor accused of killing a parishioner pleaded not guilty Monday to first-degree murder charges, according to multiple reports.
Supposed man-of-God David Love is accused of killing Randy Stone, who was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where Love preached. Love reportedly gave the eulogy at Stone's funeral. If that wasn't enough, Stone's family accuses Love of carrying on a several-years affair with Stone's wife, Teresa.
If this sounds like the perfect story for salacious true-crime shows Dateline NBC and 48 Hours Mystery, then you're right. The Pitch's Nadia Pflaum reported last month that Dateline, 48 Hours and even the BBC have been in contact with Independence police.
Randy Stone, 42, was found shot to death inside his
Farmer's Insurance office in Independence on March 31, 2010.
In November, Love was arrested on a murder warrant in South Carolina, where he was reportedly working as a truck driver. Love reportedly tried to run from authorities serving the warrant, but officers tackled him and took him into custody. Love was later indicted on charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Love resigned as pastor of New Hope in April after Independence
police executed a search warrant. The home of Stone's wife was also searched.
Love, 50, is expected back in court on February 4, according to The Kansas City Star. His arraignment had been postponed twice while he searched for an attorney. He has finally found one in public defender Molly Hastings.
