AWOL Whiteman airman Kerby Barbe, who was being sought in connection with a possible homicide, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after authorities surrounded him in a Blanco County, Texas, home.
The story is a strange one: Barbe and another unnamed airman didn't show
up for work at Missouri's Whiteman Air Force Base on Monday.
Authorities began searching for the men with the U.S. Air Force Office
of Special Investigations, investigating the case as a possible homicide that they suspected Barbe of committing.
On Tuesday, the body of 19-year-old Barbe was discovered in the wooded area of a subdivision, according to the Austin American-Statesman. Barbe reportedly had an assault rifle, 300 rounds of
ammo and military body armor.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the deceased airman. This is a tragic situation for everyone," Brig. Gen. Scott Vander Hamm said in a statement.
"We remain very concerned about our missing airman and are working with civilian authorities to assist their search. We also keep the family and friends of that airman in mind and fully support them throughout this difficult time."
Definitely a weird story that we'll be looking for answers to.

he wasnt gay.
i knew Kerby personally, hung out with him, went to school with him, & everything.
he was engaged, to a girl.
i knew her as well.
people from his home town, think he did it because of the pressure to be perfect in this small town of Blanco, Texas. he was well known & often looked upon.
so we believe he did it under pressure of trying to be the perfect guy he needed to be.
It smells like a cover up of a gay couple fighting .Its happens all the time of one lover being jilted by another and fighting.Sometimes its a fight and other times it goes beyond what is normal.Men kill ladies and ladies kill men or there lovers. So why is the military covering everything up.Why are thr great newpapers and tv reporter letting it slide.
When ballistics come back, we will all see what has occured. Or at the very least what the evidence supports. The other airman was found dead in the woods near Whiteman AFB. One could always speculate on what occured. Only those involved know for certain.
I say wait till the evidence has been made public through the closing of the case to determine anyone's innocence.
my son went to tech school with kirby. he says kirby was a nice guy and this is awful. my thoughts and prayers go out to his family who must be devastated. the alleged things he did are just that. alleged. no matter what, his family has lost a son, brother, etc. and that should be recognized. i know these young men sometimes cannot handle being away from their families, friends, etc. and is harder on some more than others. i think he just wanted to go "home". who knows. my prayers go out to his family. i hope they find the other airman that is missing alive. he might just be too scared to turn himself in or make himself known. i dont know. the boy my son knew will be missed by him. sorry. so sorry.
