David Osborne was cruising along Interstate 70 in Wabaunsee County, Kansas, when the Kansas Highway Patrol stopped his vehicle, which allegedly was packed with pounds of marijuana and cocaine. The indictment doesn't say whether the 72-year-old Osborne was driving 10 mph below the speed limit, but we have a feeling.
A search of Osborne's vehicle turned up more than 40 pounds of cocaine and 160 pounds of marijuana. Damn right, your grandpa snorted rails and smoked up.
Osborne, of Mound House, Nevada, was indicted Thursday on federal drug-trafficking charges. He's charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute more than 5
kilograms of cocaine and one count of possession with intent to
distribute more than 50 kilograms of marijuana. He's looking at a minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and up to a $4 million fine for the cocaine charge and a max penalty of 20 years and up to a $1 million fine for the marijuana charge.
And here I thought stealing batteries was the worst trouble old people got into.

Yeah without much of a doubt in my mind this old guy was a mule. But hopefully he lived a pretty good life before all of this. 5 or so years in prison and he will be toast anyway. Easy time as a old man in prison, sleeps most of the time, no sex appeal for the other inmates. He just has to eat, sleep, and pass on, not too bad. What do 70+ year old seniors do anyways?
HE LOOK LIKE A SHE AND WHY CAN;T HE HAVE HIS DRUGS.ITS HELPING HIM TO LIVE LONGER....NEXT TIME SEND SOMEONE ELSE TO GET YOUR DRUGS SIR......
This is why you always say "No thanks" when they ask if they can search your vehicle. For all the cops know, this guy didn't even know the stuff was in there. Remember "Beavis & Butthedd Do America?" Well, it's pretty easy to get inside of someone else's motor home.
Not sure what all the ageism is about here. We're talking about a criminal offence, of course, but the author is attributing the same sort of ageist stereotypes to this prat as is done in far too many workplaces.

seriously i doubt the guy was doing coke..maybe smokin some herb for his glaucoma..but yea using elderly people as mules is quite common.. they don't really draw any attention and they can use the cash
It's called a mule, no way he was doing those drugs (Hate to burst your bubble)
Quick ten or twenty grand for a man with no other income, hard to turn down. Using the elderly as mules is a common practice, as they draw next to no suspicion.
Sounds like a pretty cool one to me! Hope the Kangaroo Courts give her a break!

Wabaunsee County, KS routinely has a drug dog checkpoint on I-70. I wonder if that's what nabbed Mr. Osborne.
He should have been transporting child pornography. He would have received a shorter sentence.
