Thailand Thomas didn't waste time telling police who killed 19-year-old Sabrina Jones. Court documents say Thomas, who was arrested last week after allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen car, fingered 32-year-old Howard Harmon in the robbery turned homicide.
Thomas told police that he took part in the May robbery and admitted
shooting a man, who survived. He also identified the other two
accomplices in the robbery.
Jones was killed
during a robbery at a home
at 2902 East 21st Street around 1:31 a.m. May 18, 2010.
A witness gave this account to police. Around 1:30 a.m., four black men
knocked on the home's front door. One of the men demanded to know where
his drugs and money were. The man told police that Harmon was there,
armed with a shotgun. The other three men had handguns.
The witness told police that one of the men went to a bedroom and
dragged a naked Jones out of bed, forcing her to sit on the living-room
floor while Harmon allegedly slapped her around and told the witness how
good-looking Jones was.
The men then forced the witness to lie on the dining-room floor. Harmon
told the man that he'd let him live if he told him where the "stuff"
was. The man told Harmon, and once the items were found, two of the
suspects left the house. Harmon stood over Jones with his shotgun while
another suspect guarded the man. The man was then shot four times,
hitting him in the face, both hands and the back of the head.
Before the male shooting victim lost consciousness, he heard Harmon fire
the shotgun. When the male victim came to, he saw Jones lying dead on
the floor.
The man went to a neighbor and called for help.
The male shooting victim described Harmon as 6 feet tall with hazel eyes,
and hair usually in "single braids." He told police that Harmon also
took two handguns from him, including one with a broken handle.
On May 20, Harmon was arrested during a car check. Authorities allegedly
found a large bag containing 88.5 grams of a "white rocky substance"
inside the front pocket of a pair of gym shorts. The substance was
weighed again later and found to be 72.47 grams of cocaine in base form.
Authorities also found a gun with a broken handle under the seat of the
car.
Thomas is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault and
two counts of armed criminal action.
Last week, Thomas was arrested after
allegedly leading police on a chase in Cass County. Independence police believe that Thomas may be key in helping them
solve the robbery of the Shop 'n Pawn store at 12807 East U.S. 40
Highway. Police say several guns were taken from the store during the
robbery.
One of the stolen guns was found inside the vehicle that
Thailand was driving during the car chase.
Independence police are still trying
to round up all of the stolen weapons. If you know Thomas or know the
people with whom he associates, call the Independence police at
816-325-7330 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
