Gage Koelliker's second birthday would have been this week. The St. Joseph News-Press reported that the 1-year-old boy died in St. Joseph last week; a parent called 911 for help, saying the boy wasn't breathing. By the time EMTs arrived, it was too late.
St. Joseph police are investigating the boy's death as a "criminal" matter, and an initial autopsy revealed that the infant's death wasn't an accident.
Police reportedly arrested 24-year-old Antonio West in connection with a
drug investigation.
Koelliker and his mother, Heather, were reportedly staying at
West's
home.
West is charged with felony delivery of a controlled substance and is being
held on $60,000 bond. They're also questioning him about Koelliker's death. No charges have been filed, though.
Obviously, there are a lot of unanswered questions. We hope we get answers soon to another case of a child dying way too soon.
If you have information about the boy's death, call Sgt.
Jennifer Protzman at 816-271-4747 or the TIPS Hotline 816-238-8477.
