Believe it or not, there's Chiefs news that doesn't involve asses head-butting each other in traffic and screwfests in Lot G at Arrowhead. This news is rather good. The scribes at the Professional Football Writers Association were quite impressed with Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli's work this season, and honored him as the NFL Executive of the Year for the fifth time in his career.

You would think that Pioli's excitement about the award would be tempered by a desperate search for shelf space in his trophy case, but it didn't appear to. "We started to get the feeling that things were starting to change in

the off-season," he said to Pro Football Weekly. Clearly they did.

The Chiefs accomplished the biggest one-season turnaround in franchise

history, going from a rather dismal 4-12 in 2009 to an AFC West-clinching

10-6 record this season. And it all started with a madness-inducing Monday

Night Football appearance in Week 1 in which the the Chiefs edged out the cocky San Diego Chargers to christen the "New Arrowhead."

Sports Illustrated football writer Peter King praised

Pioli, who is in his second year with the club. King said the front

office veteran, who was largely responsible for turning the New England

Patriots into a juggernaut, deserves special credit for his drafting

foresight. "... Pioli's draft (strong character players and impact

rookies), and the Chiefs winning the AFC West, gave him the edge," King

wrote.

Now let's watch Dexter McCluster's amazing 94-yard punt

return against the Chargers and collectively raise our hopes for next season.

Hardware is nice, but now the pressure is on, Pioli!
