Just when you think the awfulness of humanity cannot surprise you anymore, you hear a story like this one: A baby's frozen body was found in a plastic bag in the bed of the father's pickup truck.
The Kansas City Star reported that the baby's body was discovered Thursday in the 11300 block of East 49th Street. Wanda Benenhaley, the baby's 38-year-old mother, told police that the baby was stillborn.
A man reportedly told police that he had heard a woman giving birth
in the bathroom of the home on January 9. Weeks later, the man returned
and asked the mother and father about the baby, but they dodged
questions. So he called police, and they started asking questions. Here's the parents' story, via the Star.
I cringe every time I hear KMBC anchor Donna Pitman say that the medical examiner is waiting for the baby's body to thaw before performing an autopsy.Police questioned the couple. They admitted the baby's birth in the bathtub. When officers asked where the body was, the woman said to "ask my boyfriend."
He told them he cut the umbilical cord, wrapped the baby's body in a plastic bag and put it in his truck bed.
The officers didn't think the bag would still be in the truck, but it was.
