The woman who committed Kansas City, Kansas' first homicide of 2010 won't be getting out of prison for at least 25 years.

Although the historic City Market has been, for 157 years, a gathering place for regional farmers selling fresh produce and local customers looking for fruits and vegetables, this Valentine's Day will feature something different in the facility's heated pavilion: a minister, flowers, a red carpet, and the opportunity to be married between noon and 3 p.m.
This will be the third year that the City Market has offered a limited number of free weddings on the property, conducted in 15-minute intervals, giving the bride, groom and wedding party the opportunity to shop and even eat lunch in one of the City Market's restaurants.
Orlando Smith was running for his life in a parking lot after a teen dance party let out. Witnesses told police they saw Bruce Cunningham and Roland Wayne Mitchell III chasing the 19-year-old, firing a handgun at him.
Smith was found dead in a parking lot near 15th
and Holmes just before 1 a.m. January 17. Between 150 and 200 people were at the party, which was just letting out at the time of the killing.
Martinez-Carino was strangled to death last May, and now one of his killers has pleaded guilty to murder charges.
Admira
Hamidovic, 22, pleaded guilty Friday to her role in killing the 18-year-old last year. She also pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.
For the fifth year in a row, Congregation B'nai Jehudah in Overland Park has hosted a chicken-soup competition as a "fun-raising" event for its members, says development director Deborah Goldstein. I've been invited to judge the entries for several years, and yesterday's cook-off -- with both amateur and professional categories -- had perfect timing. I have a cold.
The judges were mostly nonprofessionals, though there was at least one current chef present and two former restaurant owners, Gary and Mary Schanzer, who are now out of the culinary business.
Tracey Jones was driving the school bus that hit and killed 16-year-old Mason Adams in November. Jones, 23, failed to defog her windows, so she didn't see Adams in the crosswalk. For that deadly mistake, Jones was sentenced to 15 days in jail, two years of probation and 200 hours of community service, according to the St. Joseph News-Press. But she hasn't gotten the forgiveness of Adams' friends and family.
Bridget Blasi, Adams' mother, reportedly told the court that she cannot
forgive Jones. "She isn't in my mercy or the mercy of the court."

I'm not sure there is anything cooler than having a dinosaur named after you. Count KU grads and identical twins Celina and Marina Suarez among the coolest people ever after the two had a new species of dinosaur named for them.
Geminiraptor suarezarum, "one of the oldest dinosaurs of its type ever identified in North America," will be named for the 29-year-old identical twins and geochemists, who discovered the birdlike raptor's bones in Utah in 2004.
Great photographs and paintings are often crafted by established artists for album covers; but just as often, they're picked up by musicians who happen to come across them. Sometimes the images are used untouched, and sometimes they are manipulated, but all are great at capturing the musician's work visually -- or a least, providing vivid, eye-catching packaging.
