A suspected drunken driver led Kansas City police on a chase early this morning that ended in separate crashes.
The driver of a Ford Fusion was spotted swerving without his headlights near Prospect Avenue and Gregory Boulevard around 3 a.m., The Kansas City Star reported. The officer stopped the Fusion, but the driver reportedly sped away when the officer got out of his car. From there, the chase was on, stretching to 70th Terrace and the Paseo and ending with the suspect crashing and fleeing on foot. But the suspected drunk wasn't the only one who crashed.
The officer tried to stop but hit a patch of ice and slid into a tree in a yard. Inside the Fusion, the cops found an open bottle of Hennessy cognac and a plastic baggy of a green leafy substance. The suspect was gone.
The Star reports that not long after the wreck, a person walked into Metro Patrol to report the Fusion stolen. No word on whether they also claimed the Hennessy and the green leafy stuff.
