  • Rondell Ross has been indicted for kidnapping.

Rondell Ross was accused in December of attacking his ex-girlfriend and abducting his 18-month-old daughter. Ross later surrendered to Alvin Brooks and the AdHoc Group Against Crime and returned the girl.

Last week, a Jackson County grand jury indicted Ross for kidnapping,

second-degree domestic assault, parental kidnapping and second-degree

endangering the welfare of a child.

Court records accuse Ross and Nashelle Brown of abducting the child on December 7.

Here's how it all went down, according to a probable-cause statement: The girl's mother, Sharron White, told police that she was typing

the access

code to her garage around 6 p.m. when she heard a vehicle rapidly

approach and stop. White told police that she was hit in the back of the

head from behind.

She said she fell to the ground and Ross, her ex-boyfriend, was standing

over her yelling. Ross allegedly grabbed their daughter and ran to a

black Chevy Tahoe at the end of White's driveway. Ross

allegedly handed the girl to Brown, who was sitting in the passenger

seat of the

vehicle, and sped away.

A neighbor told police that she heard White scream and get up off

the driveway. The neighbor also saw a man holding a child get into a

vehicle and leave in a hurry.

Court records say White told police that she believes Ross is the father of the girl, and she is trying to estbalish paternity. She told police that Ross had denied being the child's father, and he had been ordered by a court to undergo a paternity test.

Ross apparently was telling police a different story: He reportedly called Grain Valley police and told a

detective that he didn't kidnap his daughter; he did a normal

custody exchange.

The only good news out of this mess was that the young girl was reportedly in "good health" and back with her mother.
