Maybe Todd Haley won't be calling the offense after all. The Kansas City Chiefs have named Bill Muir as the team's new offensive coordinator, according to the team's website.

Muir, "the most tenured member of the Chiefs coaching staff," had coached KC's offensive line since 2009. The promotion followed an "extensive coaching search," according to the Chiefs' website. But Haley may still be the one making the calls.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that Haley is still mulling over whether he wants to call the plays (h/t: Arrowhead Pride).

"We are very fortunate to have someone of Bill's caliber take over the

role of offensive coordinator," Haley said in a statement. "Bill's depth

of experience, his championship success as a coach and as a coordinator

is widely respected around the league, and he will serve our young and

veteran players very well and provide critical continuity as we continue

to develop on offense."

The highlight of Muir's history was seven seasons as offensive coordinator/offensive line coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In that stretch, the Bucs won three division crowns and a Super Bowl XXXVII championship.

Muir is a Haley guy. They've worked together for 10 seasons, dating back to the 1995 New York Jets.

Quarterback Matt Cassel also chimed in on the Chiefs' release.

"Coach Muir has been a big part of what we've been able to do as an offense, so I'm excited about him taking over the coordinator role," Cassel said in the statement. "As a quarterback and as an offense, continuity is important, and having someone with Coach Muir's experience will help us continue to move forward in the right direction."

This apparently isn't just a promotion. It's a piling on of duties. The Chiefs say Muir "will maintain responsibilities as the Chiefs offensive line coach, working with assistant offensive line coach Pat Perles on the continued development of the group."

Here's Muir's background via the Chiefs:
