UPDATE: Leavenworth County prosecutors have charged Bobby Brown with felony murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, criminal discharge of a firearm into a vehicle, and aggravated intimidation of a witness (a juvenile) in connection with the Valentine's Day slaying of Stephen Knox-Brune.

Original Story (February 16): Stephen Knox-Brune was shot inside a vehicle on Valentine's Day. Friends of the 23-year-old Leavenworth man then tried to drive him to a

hospital in Kansas City, Kansas -- more than 20 miles away -- but the

Leavenworth Times reported that the car either stalled or ran out of gas.

So the other passengers left Knox-Brune in the vehicle near 107th Street and

Wolcott Road. A passer-by later reported the vehicle to police around 6:30 p.m.

An unnamed 22-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday afternoon at the Leavenworth Public Library, the Times reported.

Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens told the Times that investigators believe Knox-Brune was shot in Leavenworth between 5:30 and 6 p.m. Monday. From the Times:

The police chief said investigators are exploring whether

the incident was related to narcotics. Kitchens said authorities were

not ready Tuesday afternoon to release other details about what is

believed to have happened.

Knox-Brune's mother, Sherry Brune, told KCTV5 that she's not happy with her son's friends for trying to drive 20 miles to a hospital in KCK rather than taking him to one of Leavenworth's two hospitals.

"I'm angry," Sherry Brune told KCTV5. "I feel they are just as much at fault for his death as the man who pulled the trigger."

Authorities are still looking for information about Knox-Brune's death. If you know something, call 913-573-6020 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

Wow, what a waste. He was just a kid who got caught up in that "Gangsta" lifestyle, and it got him killed. I also knew "Mojo" he didn't deserve this! God rest his soul. I pray for the family he leaves behind.

I knew Stephen, and I hate to say it, he could easily get himself in that deep.
